FORESTERRA is an ERA-NET Project within the EU's 7th Framework Programme, with a duration of four years and a budget of almost two million Euros. FORESTERRA's objective is to improve the coordination and cooperation in Mediterranean forest research among different entities from Europe and North Africa and to open possibilities for greater scientific cooperation with other Mediterranean Climate Areas.
Dr. David González Martínez, BSc and PhD (Marine Sciences), has been appointed Head of Unit at the Ministry for Economy and Competitiveness’s Directorate General for Scientific and Technical Research and will be the FORESTERRA Coordinator. Dr. González Martínezhas started his term on 1stApril. He has been a postdoc at the University College London and the University of Liège in Belgium from 2002 until 2008 in the field of life sciences. Since 2006 he has gained a sound experience in project and programme management at the Spanish Foreign Affairs Ministry, the Spanish Research Council and the Ministry for Economy and Competitiveness.
He is replacing Rocío Lansac, the former FORESTERRA Coordinator.
The objective of WP2 is the mapping and characterization of the existing forestry funding programmes and forestry research capacities of the countries participating in the FORESTERRA Consortium, which brought together 12 Mediterranean countries.
