FAO report places forests at the heart of a greener economy
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) presented a report last June at the Rio+20 Conference, stating that the world's forests will play a major role in the transition to a new, greener economy. But to reach that goal, governments must enact programmes and policies aimed at unlocking forests' potential and ensuring that they are sustainably managed. According to FAO a better and more sustainable use of forestry resources can help to reduce poverty and hunger, minimize the impacts of climate change, and create alternative and more sustainable sources of bio-products and bio-energy for human use.
